Special offer for groups staying 7 nights or more
A trip leader goes for FREE and receives a $600 allowance for airfare when they recruit 10 or more people. They earn 50% of the $930 ($910 School Groups) trip cost when they recruit 8 – 9 people. A trip leader works with the USA office of FEV to plan a successful trip.
The base price for a 7-night ecotour for a group of 8 or more is $930 ($910 School Groups) per person exclusive of airfare. Included in 7-night ecotours are transportation to and from Managua International Airport, all meals, guided hikes, fascinating talks by local experts, and a host of exotic activities and cultural performances. 7-night ecotours often include stays with Guest House Families in the charming town of San Ramón.
Ecotours such as Nia and Yoga are priced by the trip leader.
Typical 7-night ecotour including stays with host families in the town of San Ramón.
On a typical 7-night ecotour to San Ramón, you will spend four days at FEV and three with a host family in town. You will come away with an understanding of what life is like for people in underdeveloped countries and especially the wonderful people you have met.
Your guide will greet you at the Managua airport where you will board the bus to FEV. When you arrive at FEV the staff is ready to show you what they have accomplished in developing the farm’s lodge and cabins, shade grown organic coffee, butterfly farm and campground.
Before you can put your bag in your cabin, you will be planning outings to search for leaf cutter ants, howler monkeys, toucans, migratory birds from North America and waterfalls. After dinner you may star gaze, take a hike in search of nocturnal creatures or listen to a talk about organic coffee farming.
For those who would like to help out, there is always work to do on the farm picking coffee (December to mid-February), gathering food for the butterfly caterpillars or repairing hiking trails. Local groups come in the evening to sing and to perform traditional dances. On request, local farmers will take you on horseback rides into the countryside.
You will spend up to three days as the guest of a host family, where you can try out your Spanish, learn to wash clothes by hand (“Nica style”), or accompany a family member to the mill to have corn ground for tortillas. Young people, members of the San Ramón Tourist Guide Club, will introduce you to small town life and take you on walks to the local schools, library, craft market, to visit the forest preserve of a local environmentalist, and to view Montezuma’s Oropéndulas (a bird species) feeding their young in large hanging nests.
